POLLOK, TX (KTRE) – Two Pollok teenagers and a family from Alto are all thankful tonight. They survived what could have been a fatal crash on Highway 69 North in Pollok shortly before 7 Saturday night.
The accident scene photos tell the story of the seriousness of the wreck.
A mustang driven by Higinio Carrera, 58, Alto, was traveling in the outer lane when the driver of the Jeep, a 16 year old Pollok boy tried to change lanes. The driver said he didn't see the mustang, according to Department of Public Safety Trooper Travis Richnow. "The two vehicles didn't actually hit, but the mustang swerved off the road once onto the shoulder. The car is totaled."
Carrera had in the car with him family members Prudencia Garces, 51, Raul Garces, 23, and an 11 year old girl, all from Alto. The driver of the Jeep was traveling with another 16 year old from Pollok. Both boys left without serious injuries, Trooper Richnow said.
The driver of the Jeep was cited for changing lanes when unsafe.
Angelina County Sheriff's deputies and volunteers from Central Fire Department also responded to the accident.
