Daschle Honors Troops who Died for Freedom

Washington-AP -- Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle says the war on terrorism will be won because of the courage and skill of U.S. armed forces -- which has been repeatedly shown throughout the nation's history.

The Air Force veteran from South Dakota delivered the Democrats' weekly radio address on this Memorial Day weekend.

He says more than one million Americans have died in wars since the nation's beginning, paying for freedom with their lives.

Daschle used much of the address to memorialize Army Chief Warrant Officer Hans Gukeisen, who grew up in South Dakota. He was killed this month while trying to rescue an Iraqi child who had been injured by a land mine.
