LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – How can families go back-to-school shopping and stay on a shoe string budget? It's easy to buy supplies, and save, if you just know where to look.
David Saenz's back-to-school budget is twice as tight, since he's getting two daughters ready for class.
"Just trying to get all the school supplies and get everything out of the way spending money," said Saenz.
With endless options, many parents are having a hard time keeping costs down. However, there are a few simple things families can do to stay on top of their spending.
"You can do your one-stop shopping here. You can get your shoes, your socks, everything," said Target Human Resources Executive, Ashley Partain.
Ashley Partain works for the Lufkin Target, and helps customers find ways to save. One way, is just by doing all of your shopping in one place.
"When you're going to different places, you're more likely to get more impulse buys," said Partain.
Many of the parents we talked to say that buying uniforms instead of picking out various types of clothing cuts down on the budget, and arguments with the kids.
Stocking up on school supplies during back-to-school sales can save big bucks throughout the year.
"I know personally, I double my son's school supply list. That way if he runs out - because now is the time. The prices are low. The prices are right," said Partain.
David Saenz is happy about a headache-free shopping trip. He's sticking to his budget by sticking to their supply lists.
Most stores have supply lists for each school district on-hand to help you out.
By the way, tax-free weekend is two weeks away, the weekend of August 20th - 22nd.
