CENTRAL, TX (KTRE) – The Central fire chief has died of an apparent heart attack Thursday.

Donald Thornton worked for the Central volunteer fire department for 25 years, 20 of those as fire chief.

Visitation will be held at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in San Augustine from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, with the funeral to follow. Thornton's wife is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the fire department.

The Central fire department plans to honor Thornton Saturday night at the Speedorama racetrack, as Thornton loved monster trucks.

He was 59 years old.
