Nacogdoches Police arrest 13 in drug-warrant sweep

BEAUMONT, TX (News Release) -

Nacogdoches, TX (Press release) - Arrest teams from the Nacogdoches Police Department began serving arrest warrants late Thursday afternoon as a result of a lengthy narcotics investigation by the department's Street Crimes Unit. 

Shortly after 4:00 pm Thursday, the NPD began arresting defendants that were charged with various crimes, mostly involving illegal narcotics. "This investigation targeted street level narcotics traffickers," said Lt. Dan Taravella, NPD Special Operations Commander. "Most of our complaints come from neighborhoods where these street dealers operate. This investigation has been ongoing for months, using information from concerned citizens and Crime Stoppers tips", he added. "Thirteen individuals were arrested at various addresses within the first three hours of the operation. This investigation and operation was a huge success and we will continue to add more names to the list as the investigation continues," Taravella said.  

As of the time of this press release, the following individuals had been arrested and booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail:

Barry D. Whitaker, 28 of 318 N. Popp St. Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Michael A. Green, 41, of 513 N. Sanders. Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Roderick Hall, 35, of 910 Third St. Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Costella Mosley, 46, of 2702 Old Tyler Rd. Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Laaron A. Long, 21 of 1505 Spokane. Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Sultana Freeney, 24, of 1515 W. Main St. Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Sherbert Deckard, 47, of 602 Oak Hill Plaza. Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Theft warrant and Assault warrant.

Michael Everett Roberts, 53, of 615 Shawnee. Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Ronnie Garrett, 49, of 2702 Old Tyler Rd. Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Edward Johnson, 47, of 2702 Old Tyler Rd. Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

Jamie Green, 38, of 802 Powers. Traffic warrants.

Tarius Tanae Nash, 18, of 208 Lenwood Dr. Larceny warrant from Wood County.

Brian Ballard, 29, of 3220 North St. Traffic warrants.

A small quantity of crack cocaine and marijuana was also located at a residence during the warrant sweep.

At the time of this release, ten other individuals have outstanding warrants for their arrest as a result of this investigation. The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office and the Nacogdoches County Precinct 4 Constable's Office also assisted with the warrant round up.

    More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
