LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Authorities say a San Augustine woman was drunk behind the wheel and responsible for at least two accidents within minutes of each other early Saturday morning. On top of that, Lasha Jones, 23, had two kids and her pregnant friend in the car.

"She had two accidents and she didn't stop at the first one," said Maribel Flores, whose husband was involved in the second accident. "If she would have stopped at the first one none of this would have happened."

Flores says her husband's car was rear-ended along Highway 59 North, allegedly by Lasha Jones. Authorities say Jones sped away after the first wreck near Winston 8 Ranch around 1:20 a.m. Saturday, with her eight-year-old brother, another child and her pregnant friend in the car with her.

At the first wreck, Jones allegedly hit Lashanda Johnson of Missouri City. According to DPS, Johnson's vehicle suffered minor damage. She was able to drive away from the scene.

Authorities say minutes later around 1:25 a.m., Jones slammed into Flores' husband's vehicle. Only this time, she was forced to stop.

"We saw the truck was upside down," said Flores. "We got very scared. We just ran up here and then we saw he was okay. We were glad he was okay."

Her husband's vehicle struck a tree and then flipped over. Jones' car traveled about 100 feet north and landed in a grassy area. No one was seriously injured.

When Flores arrived on scene, she says Jones was stumbling around, trying to make sense of what had happened.

"She couldn't like do one step," said Jones. "She was bad. She was drunk bad."

She then spotted Jones' eight-year-old brother.

"I went over there and asked if he was okay because he was a little boy," she said. "It was very sad."

Jones' eight-year-old brother was alone, waiting until family arrived to pick him up. Authorities say Jones' pregnant friend and the other child ran after the accident. Flores is still at a loss for words.

"I don't have words to say to her," she said.

DPS troopers say Jones told them she did not stop after the first accident because she didn't know she had hit someone.

Jones is charged with DWI with a child, endangering a child and failure to stop and render aid. She is now out of jail on a $3,500 bond.
