ZAVALLA, TX (KTRE) - A routine traffic stop in Zavalla led to a police officer catching a Katy man with 89 prescription pills early Tuesday morning, according to police.
According to Police Chief Bobby Epperly, an officer stopped a vehicle on the 300 block of East Main Street with two occupants. The officer observed Curtis Lee Ferrill, 39, a passenger, with a beer can between his legs and put him under arrest. The officer then found an unmarked orange bottle which contained 55 hydrocodone pills, 27 xanex and seven somas, Epperly said.
Epperly said the driver of the vehicle told the officer that Ferrill had taken the pills out of this pocket and was trying to stuff them down the seat. The driver said he did not know Ferrill had the pills, Epperly said.
Ferrill was booked into the Angelina County Jail at 4:09 a.m. Tuesday and charged with possession of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $11,500.
