LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin firefighters are working to extinguish a large brush fire behind a property on the 1700 block of North First Street.

Several fire units are at the residence. It is not immediately known what started the fire.

A shooting which left two seriously injured happened at the same location early Thursday. Assistant Fire Marshal Steve McCool said it did not immediately appear that the shooting and fire were related, but they would look into the fire a little further due to the previous incident.

McCool said the fire started at 1:13 p.m., about 40 feet away from the house and spread to less than half an acre. He said it was extinguished at 2:31 p.m.
