LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Not many weekends match the rush of shoppers expected this weekend.
"We always beef up the staff on this weekend because it's second only to Black Friday as far as sales volume," said Gary Williams, General Manager at Baskins in the Lufkin Mall.
Williams is pumped about the crowds.
"We're breaking our ad Wednesday of this week and it'll have a lot of in-store specials in addition to the eight and a quarter percent tax savings. So you're kinda get a double whammy savings on both ends," said Williams.
School supplies aren't the only must-have's on the tax free list. Jeans, jackets, underwear, and even p.j.'s come in at retail price.
Not everything, though, is cheaper this weekend.
"A belt is exempt. A belt buckle alone is considered an accessory and is not tax exempt," said Williams.

Tax free weekend isn't just about getting the kids ready for school. It's also a wonderful chance to stock-up on work clothing like fire resistant shirts and work pants.
"A lot of guys come in and take advantage at this one time of year - they don't just come in and get a pair of pants or two. They stock up for the whole year," said Williams.
You can purchase as many school supplies and clothes as you can afford, but some big-ticket items don't make the cut.
"The one stipulation you got to realize its anything under $99.99. Anything over one hundred dollars is taxable no matter what it is," said Williams.
Advice from the pros: shop early and skip the long lines.
Tax Free Weekend kicks off Friday, August 29th and goes through Sunday evening.
Many stores are planning extended hours this weekend for your convenience.
