TENAHA- (KTRE) – Two a day tour around East Texas continues as we hit the ground running with the Tenaha Tigers. They went 12-1 last season before losing to Mart 25-22 in the regional finals. They bring back a talented group this season although they their quarterback Cobi Steadman to graduation.
Tigers enter district 12 this season staying in the small class 1a division two. With the likes of Beckville, Mt. Enterprise, and Gilmer Union Hill three out of four teams will make the playoffs from this district.
"We have a tough pre-district schedule we are playing Joaquin always tough. Timpson, Harleton, Garrison, Alto and West Rusk we may not win any of those ball games but we did that to prepare us for our district," Terry Ward, Tenaha football coach said.
The Tigers will be lead by junior stud athlete Reginald Davis. Very athletic he can throw it and run it; he is a dual threat game breaker at anytime.
"This year I had to practice on being a better quarterback because last year I was at receiver had to step up and learn quarterback a little bit the rollouts the handoffs reading the defense," Davis said.
Upfront on both sides of the lines they will be lead by another junior Ladarren Cooks who has been playing varsity since he was a freshman.
"We running a lot trying to get into shape, everybody doing right first week of practice was great best I ever had the new guys are all learning their stuff real quick and easy," Cooks said.
Thursday Tenaha will play at Cushing for a 6pm scrimmage; they will play at Joaquin to begin the regualr season August 27th .
