BEAUMONT, TX (News Release) - CHIRENO, TX (KTRE) - A woman reported missing 12 days ago in San Augustine County was found Thursday afternoon, walking on a State Highway 95 near Chireno.
A resident of the area found Patricia Johnson, 37, walking down the road barefoot, with the two dogs that disappeared with her. San Augustine County Sheriff's Deputy Allen Cunningham said the resident alerted authorities, and Nacogdoches County Deputy Constable Shawn Murray picked Johnson up. Cunningham and Sheriff David Smith went to his office and brought her back to her mother.
Cunningham said Johnson claimed she had walked into the woods and got lost and lived off berries and creek water.
"I'm just glad she's OK," he said.
Johnson declined medical attention and just wanted to clean up and go to her doctor, he said.
"She was very lucid, aware of her surroundings and able to walk fine," Cunningham said.
Cunningham said Johnson was covered in mosquito bites and was sunburned.
Johnson's mother, Evelyn, declined an interview, but said she was happy her daughter was home.
Johnson was last heard from on Aug. 7 in Chireno.
Her vehicle, a blue Ford Taurus, was discovered at her sister's residence on County Road 264 off of FM 1196 on Saturday morning around 10 a.m. The doors were unlocked, the keys were not in the car and the hood was open.
Cunningham said Johnson was found roughly five miles from where she disappeared, on the other side of the Attoyac River.
