Fire burns 20 acres in Woden area

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A forest fire burned about 20 acres in the Woden area Tuesday afternoon, according to a firefighter.

Woden Fire Chief Ricky Jones said firefighters were back on the scene Wednesday morning to make sure there were no embers still burning. A plane will also be patrolling the area.

Jones said it was not known what started the fire, but that it did start on the side of the road.

The land contained sparsely planted timber, but the flames did reach the top of the trees, which were as high as 50 feet.

Several area firefighting agencies were called to the scene on County Road 555 at about 2:15 p.m. to fight the fire. Jones said the fire was contained by 8 p.m.

Jones warned the public to be careful with all flammables and heat sources, especially considering how dry the vegetation is.
