Nacogdoches purse snatcher goes to extreme measures, police say

BEAUMONT, TX (News Release) -

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man with previous criminal convictions allegedly went to extra measures to keep from getting caught. This time, in a purse-snatching case, according to Nacogdoches Police.

According to the report, the victim was walking in the parking lot of Wal-Mart when a male suspect, later identified as Johnathon Dean French, 29, grabbed her purse and fled in a vehicle with an unknown substance covering the license plate, at about 7:19 p.m.

Police later received a call of suspicious activity on Dallas Street, with the caller reporting a man rubbing something off his license plates and burning items in the yard. Officers responded and found French with some of the victim's belongings, the report stated.

French was arrested on a charge of theft. He has two previous burglary convictions on record.
