Eastlake, OH (Lake County Captains) - Lake County finished the 2010 regular season on Sunday afternoon losing to Lansing 11-0. The Captains will open the postseason on Wednesday night at 7:00PM in Grand Rapids against the White Caps.
The Lugnuts jumped on Captains' starter and former Central Heights Blue Devil Trey Haley to take a 3-0 lead. Randy Schwartz hit a two run single to start the scoring. Jake Marisnick singled in the third run of the inning forcing Haley out of the game after just two thirds of an inning.
Lansing pushed it out to 7-0 in fourth inning on reliever Mike Rayl. Brad Glenn hit into a fielder's choice to score Brad McElory. Marisnick singled to drive in Glenn. Back to back sacrifice flys by Michael Crouse and Karim Turkamani capped off the scoring.
Randy Schwartz hit his first homerun of the season in the sixth inning off Nick Kirk to make it 8-0 Lugnuts.
In the seventh inning, Brad McElory doubled off Captains reliever Jeremy Johnson to score Oliver Dominguez putting Lansing up 9-0.
The Lugnuts made it 11-0 in the eighth inning scoring twice more on Johnson. Jon Del Campo singled in a run for their tenth run. McElory drove in his second RBI with a single to finish the frame.
Casey Lawrence (2-0) picked up the win for Lansing tossing seven scoreless innings giving up just two hits and striking out five. Trey Haley (5-11) took the loss throwing just two thirds of an inning giving up three runs on two hits, walking three and hitting one hitter.
Lake County will begin the first round of the Midwest League Playoffs on Wednesday night at 7:00PM against West Michigan in a best of three series. The Captains will start RHP Brett Brach (5-8, 3.46) in game one against a TBA for the WhiteCaps. The game can be heard on AM 1330 WELW, ESPN 970 WFUN and on the internet at captainsbaseball.com.
Lake County Captains open the Midwest League Playoffs on Wednesday night September 8th in Grand Rapids against West Michigan, game time to be announced. Game two will be on Thursday September 9th at 6:30 at Classic Park and if necessary Game three is Friday night at 6:30PM.
