"Furious" Sequel Races Past "Nemo" To First-place Finish at Box Office

The street-racing sequel "2 Fast 2 Furious" has sped past the deep-sea adventure "Finding Nemo" to claim the top spot at the box office.

The follow-up to the 2001 hit "The Fast and the Furious" has taken in an estimated 52-point-one million dollars in its opening weekend.

"2 Fast 2 Furious" beat the 40 million-dollar opening weekend of its predecessor, despite the absence of action star Vin Diesel, who didn't return for the sequel.

"Finding Nemo" has slipped into second place at the box office, followed by "Bruce Almighty," "The Italian Job" and "The Matrix Reloaded."
