Hundreds of kids head for the mud

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – It's a chance to play all day in the mud.

Hundreds of kids from all over East Texas, head to Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Central Heights for the annual mud bash.

After attending a church service, kids get to jump in this giant pit of mud to play.

"You dig a pit of mud and you'd be surprised the folks that would come out. We'll have kids attend this that may never come to regular church but they're getting to hear the message of Jesus Christ before they play in the mud, so you know we may spend a month of Sundays trying to reach 50 kids where as we might have 400 here today," said youth pastor Jeff Thompson, who says it's the most popular event they have all year long.

The church has hosted more than 10 mud bashes.
