LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – A near head on collision sends six people to the hospital, including three small children. According to a police report, a 19 year old driver suspected of driving while intoxicated has been charged.
The accident happened Friday night shortly before 11 p.m. on College Drive near the intersection of Daniel McCall Drive.
A white Pontiac, driven by 19 year old Mayra Hernandez, collided with a grey Ford. The driver of the Ford, 77 year old Paul Crye of Lufkin and his passenger, 88 year old Mildred Stuber were taken to Memorial Health System. They were treated for minor injuries and released Friday night.
Hernandez and three children, ages 1,2,3, were taken by ambulance to Woodland Heights Medical Center. They have since been treated and released.
Investigators said Hernandez crossed the centerline and struck the car driven by Crye. The police report also states Hernandez was issued citations for Fail to Maintain Single Lane, No Driver's License, No Insurance, Open Alcohol Container, and three counts of Improperly Restrained Child. A charge of Driving While Intoxicated with Child against pending, the police report stated.
