Small plane crashes in Panola County

Late Sunday night, Panola County Sheriff's officials confirmed that a small plane crashed near FM 2517 in Carthage

STATE & NATIONAL HEADLINES

HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) - The hurricane warning for Bermuda has been downgraded to a tropical storm warning now that Hurricane Igor has passed. Igor left many areas without electricity as it smacked the island with high winds and furious waves. Daylight will allow officials to begin assessing the damage. Igor is not expected to hit the U.S.

NEW DELHI (AP) - Officials digging through the wreckage of a train crash in central India now say at least 21 people have died. A freight train on the wrong track slammed into a stationary passenger locomotive at a railway station amid heavy rain today. Officials say the death toll could go higher.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - The U.S. military has taken over responsibility for a dangerous district in southern Afghanistan. British forces arrived in Helmand province's northern Sangin district in 2006 and have lost more than 100 troops there in fierce fighting with Taliban insurgents.

HOUSTON (AP) - The Houston Chronicle is endorsing Democrat Bill White for Texas governor. It's the first major newspaper endorsement of this year's general election campaign in that race. Republican Governor Rick Perry isn't seeking endorsements from newspaper editorial boards.

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The governors of Arizona and Texas are not attending a meeting of U.S. and Mexican border governors that formally starts today in New Mexico. The gathering focuses on border security, economic development and energy.

HOUSTON (AP) - Authorities say the shootings of three children at their suburban Houston apartment appears to be part of a triple homicide and attempted suicide that left their father wounded. A Harris County sheriff's spokesman says Muhammed Goher is charged with capital murder in the deaths of his son and two daughters. Their bodies were found yesterday.
