LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man was arrested Saturday night for using a knife to try to rob a woman on Second Street, according to a police report.
The report states a woman said a man, later identified as Freddie Lee Burney, 55, displayed a knife and attempted to take cash from her hand, on the 900 block of South Second Street. But when the woman ran, so did Burney, according to the report.
Police later tracked down Burney at the intersection of Finley Avenue and South Second Street. He was carrying two hydrocodone tablets that had not been prescribed to him, according to the report. Burney told police he and the woman had been selling prescription drugs and the woman refused to pay him his portion.
The report states Burney discarded the knife and officers were not able to find it. However, officers did not find reason to believe Burney, nor to not believe the woman and arrested Burney.
A witness provided the same account as the woman, according to the report.
Burney is charged with aggravated robbery and possession of a dangerous drug.
