NACOGDOCHES- (KTRE) – Our Jack of the Week hails from sunny Long Beach, California. Linebacker Romeo Robinson is a reserve linebacker and a special team's guru. Robinson, stands just 5'7" is the shortest linebacker on the SFA football team.
"I had to deal with it all my life especially coming out of high school some family members and coaches told me that I wasn't going to be able to play division one football. I wasn't tall enough and schools were not going to look at me and SFA gave me a chance. Height doesn't matter it's all about heart and that love for the game that I have," Robinson said.
Defensive coordinator David Gibbs sings Robinson's praises as well and believes he is very stout and smart.
"He is a real smart guy he understands the overall scheme of the defense. It's real easy for me to put him in there at anytime for any of those guys he can play sam, mike, or wheel. It makes it easy on me as a coach always knowing that I have someone that I can put in the game if something happens to one of the starters," Gibbs said.
Robinson may be short but being savvy in the trenches on the gridiron is what it's all about.
"It's mostly about leverage you know just having the faith and believing in my abilities and having quick feet getting to the ball and being undersized. A lot of guys just think that he can't make that play and going out there and showing our opponents that I can make those plays."
