Center teenager dies in single-vehicle accident

SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) – A Center teenager died in a one-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on a Shelby County road.

According to the DPS report, a 2004 Dodge pickup driven by 19-year-old Justin Williams of Shelbyville, was traveling westbound at 4:55 a.m. on FM 3184, roughly three miles east of FM 139, when it skidded off the left side of the road and overturned.

The report stated passenger Shone Whitton, 18, of Center was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. His body was taken to Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center.

A second passenger, Ryan Felder, 18, of Shelbyville is in good condition with minor scratches. He refused treatment.

Williams was injured but is in stable condition with back and left arm injuries. He was taken to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport.

According to the report, Williams was traveling at an unsafe speed, and none of the boys were wearing seatbelts.

The accident is being investigated by Corporal James Faulkner with DPS.
