ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - An Alvarado man used desperate measures to get beer after the store had closed and is now in jail for his troubles, according to the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.

An arrest affidavit for Kenneth Wesley Wars, 32, details how deputies say he borrowed a 2007 Kia Sportage from a Lufkin woman on Sept. 22 used a brick to break out the front door of Homer Mini Mart, located at 7075 U.S. 69 South.

Surveillance video from the store shows Wars enter the store, and grab a 30-pack of Budweiser and two 30-packs of Bud Light before leaving the store, according to the affidavit.

Investigators were able to connect Wars to the vehicle after the woman he borrowed it from reported it stolen when he did not return it at the time she asked that he do so, and to the vehicle shown in the surveillance video. One of the investigators knows Wars personally and was able to identify him as the person that broke into the store.

The affidavit states Wars confessed to the crime on Sept. 23.

Lt. Pete Cooper said Wars turned himself in at the Angelina County Jail on Monday. He is charged with burglary of a building.
