NACOGDOCHES- (KTRE) – Ben Wells use to play football in the Big 12 and wear the burnt orange for the University of Texas. Wells, a junior defensive back for SFA has shined since transferring from Austin he considers his time there very valuable and he learned a lot of hard lessons that have made him a changed man.
"I know I made some mistakes at UT, like just playing around a lot that may have led to me not playing as much. I take the game more serious," Wells said.
Wells took it for granted playing big time division one ball, and that lack of focus may have cost him a lack of playing time on the gridiron. He has seen the light and his second chance to make a first impression is paying off.
"I focus on academics. Come here, do football. That's the main two things I do. I stay away from everything else. Just trying to stay focused on the big picture."
A Beaumont native is happy that he gets to play ball closer to home in a much intimate setting. He has been teasing friends and family after the Lumberjacks blasted the Lamar Cardinals 71-3 (College in Beaumont).
"I went home Sunday after the game and I messed with them. Some of them didn't want to answer the phone, so I feel that was a plus."
Wells is a lockdown corner in the ‘Jacks secondary and doesn't get many opportunities to make a lot of plays patience will eventually hopefully pay off.
"I'm just trying to stay patient and when a ball do come my way, I'm going to make a play."
