LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – The Angelina County United Way is beginning its annual Fall fundraising campaign. The goal is to raise $540,000 over the course of the next few weeks.
The goal has been increase by $15,000 over 2009, however, campaign volunteers are optimistic that they will make it.
Division chairs and volunteers gathered Friday morning for the traditional painting of the barometer on the parking lot of Lufkin Mall. The 63rd campaign is already at 8% of its goal as they head towards Tuesday's General Solicitations kickoff.
"We are very pleased with the quick start of the United Way campaign and are seeing many of our divisions fast approaching their goals – led by the Insurance Division already at 102%!" Jerry Huffman, UW Campaign Chairman, said.
Twenty-one agencies will benefit from the money raised. "The Angelina County United Way is all about helping our neighbors and we hope everyone will give what they can so we can take care of our own when they need it most," Huffman said. "We look forward to the General Solicitation kick-off Tuesday morning which really begins our campaign."
