LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Hundreds put their feet to the pedals today for a tour of the Pineywoods.

More than 600 cyclists showed up for the 19th annual Pineywoods Purgatory ride, hosted by the Lufkin Host Lions Club.

Bikers chose from four courses ranging from 25 to 100 miles taking bikers through Angelina, Cherokee and Nacogdoches County.

For some, the ride has become a tradition.

"A lot of friendly people, people year around and you meet people from all parts of Texas, Louisiana, and where have you so we really enjoy it," said 80-year-old Tom Stewart, who has been participating in the Pineywoods Purgatory since 1993.

All funds from the ride will go to improving the campus at the Stubblefield Learning Center.
