ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Angelina County deputies arrested a Lufkin man Thursday for beating a man staying at his ex-wife's house with a crowbar.

According to the arrest affidavit, a deputy responded to a call on the 100 block of Edward's Cove at 6:01 a.m. in reference to an assault in progress.

According to the report, a woman who lived there said her ex-husband, Max Anthony Vann, 35, made a loud bang outside the house before calling out to her. The woman said Vann then went to the front door of the residence and started to bang on it. She answered the door and Vann said, "that son of a [explicit] is on the couch." The woman said she told him that was her daughter.

Vann then went into the house and went toward the woman's room where he confronted a man and began striking him with a crowbar several times, the woman said. The woman said she tried to stop him and received a small laceration on her left arm.

The man being beaten eventually got away out the back door. The deputy was able to get four witnesses to describe what they saw, but could not get a statement from the man because he was being taken to the hospital for his injuries.

The man was treated and released from Lufkin Memorial at 11 p.m. Thursday.

Vann was booked into the Angelina County Jail Thursday afternoon on two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
