Nacogdoches capital murder suspect pleads to lesser charge

BEAUMONT, TX (News Release) - NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man accused in the death of another Nacogdoches man pleaded guilty to a lesser charge on Friday.

Bakari White, 26, accepted a 20-year prison sentence and pleaded guilty to arson. He also accepted a one-year sentence for aggravated assault, which he has already served out in county jail while waiting for his day in court.

A grand jury indicted White on a capital murder charge in Nov. 2009. He was accused in the death of Lamont Kenyon Patton, 34. Patton was discovered dead inside of a burning car on Laceyville Road in Nacogdoches County.

Four men have been arrested in the death. Bob Moore II pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to five years in prison. Schanda Handy pleaded guilty to the same charge for a probated sentence. Andrew Devon Thomas' case is pending.
