Sally Ride and three others inducted into Astronaut Hall of Fame

Kennedy Space Center-AP -- Sally Ride is the first American woman member of the U-S Astronaut Hall of Fame. She and three other former shuttle astronauts were inducted today.

Ride's induction came almost 20 years to the day from her historic space flight as the nation's first woman astronaut in space. (June 18th, 1983)

She says she dreamed of flying in space as a little girl and still can't believe her dream came true.

Ride's two-time mission commander, Robert Crippen, introduced her at the induction ceremony. He says on her first flight into space she broke the world's highest glass ceiling.

Ride flew in space twice and was training for her third and final mission when Challenger exploded in 1986. She served on the accident investigation boards for that flight and the Columbia disaster.

Also inducted today were Daniel Brandenstein, Robert "Hoot" Gibson, and Story Musgrave.
