LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man accepted a lesser charge Tuesday for attacking a deputy over the July 4 holiday weekend.
Norman Reed Thacker, 25, accepted a six-month sentence in county jail and receives credit for 101 days already served.
Thacker was originally charged with assault of a peace officer but instead pleaded to a misdemeanor assault offense.
According to a previous report, the Angelina County Sheriff's Office was called to a disturbance at the Polk's convenience store on U.S. 69 North. Upon arriving, they observed Norman Reed Thacker, 24, "intoxicated on narcotics," according to Lt. Pete Cooper.
Cooper said the deputies had a hard time arresting Thacker, as he at first ran away. When deputies caught up to him, he fought back. Cooper said he kicked and injured one deputy.
