NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) – Wednesday was opening night of the Pineywoods fair and KTRE Ride-a-mania night. Hundreds of you came to support our can food drive. Three cans got you a $5 discount on ride arm-bands. KTRE thanks you for your generous donations.

Speaking of food, there's plenty of it inside the gates of the Nacogdoches Expo Center.

With a little help, we set out to find the very best, in fair food.

We asked, "What's your favorite food?"

"Probably Mexican."

"Chicken!"

"A steak on a stick or a pork on a stick."

"Funnel cake."

The Pineywoods fair offers no shortage of good food but we were curious, which foods are must-haves for any fair-goer?

One brave couple stepped up to our challenge of sampling as many fair foods as possible, in 30 minutes.

It's a tough assignment but Coquese and Phillip Skinner say they've got a big appetite.

"It wasn't a problem for me. That's what I was looking forward to," said Coquese.

First up, grilled shrimp and a corn dog.

"It's good, crunchy."

Then off to tackle the "Woden" burger.

We wondered why we've heard so much about them.

It's a fundraiser for Woden ISD and these cooks are tight-lipped.

"We'd be giving away our secret. We can't do that. It's all the love and dedication from the teachers and parents."

So what are our critics saying?

"it is real tender, yeah it's good."

Of course any gourmand's journey wouldn't be complete without the piece-de-resistance-- funnel cake and cotton candy.

"You have to have some cotton candy," said Coquese.

After all the indulging it's time for a check in.

"I could still go for something else," she laughed.

So much to eat, so little time.

How about a rib eye sandwich?

Turns out -- it's a hit.

"I give it a 10," said Coquese.

We've found Coquese's favorite fair food. How about Phillip?

"The grilled shrimp. It's real good," he said.

Taste buds may differ, but any foodie is sure to be in hog heaven.

Our food challenge may be over but the Skinners say they still have room for more.

"I'll get a turkey leg," said Phillip.

The Pineywoods fair continues through Sunday.

You have plenty of time to sample all that great food, and ride all the rides, of course, before you eat.
