Former Employee Suing City of Lufkin for Racial Discrimination

Testimony began on Monday, June 23 in a federal discrimination lawsuit against the City of Lufkin by a former employee.

Ray Boston worked for the city's solid waste department for two years. Boston believes he was passed over for the position of master operator because he's black. Boston says he was more qualified than the person who got the job. That person was white.

Boston also claims that he was discriminated against because he supported a co-worker, Jo Ann Thomas, in her claim of discrimination against the city. Thomas was awarded $2,700 dollars in her suit.

Boston is seeking damages and wants to be reinstated by the city and promoted to master operator. His trial is expected to wrap up Wednesday
