ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Following a week-long investigation, Angelina County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Groveton man they say cut a birth control implant out of a girl's arm and illegally gave her a tattoo.

According Lt. Pete Cooper, the sheriff's office was contacted on Oct. 12 in regard to a 16-year-old juvenile being tattooed and having a surgically place implant removed. During the investigation, detectives say they learned the suspect, James Jacob Thompson, 22, told the juvenile at a party he was a tattoo artist and would tattoo her. Thompson had his tattooing materials in his vehicle at the party, the report states.

Cooper said the juvenile also asked Thompson if he would remove a birth control implant from her arm, and he did by making an incision in her arm.

Investigators Mike Jones and Mark McLin arrested Thompson on Tuesday on charges of practicing medicine without a license, tattooing a prohibited person and tattooing at an unlicensed facility. He also had several outstanding warrants with the Lufkin Police Department.

Cooper said during the arrest, deputies found an unmarked pill bottle containing ecstasy, so he is also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

An arrest affidavit states the girl paid Thompson $20 for the tattoo and removing the implant.
