HOUSTON, TX (KTRE) - Kenneth and Angie King are resting comfortably after undergoing kidney transplant procedures in Houston. Angie donated one of her kidneys to her husband, Kenneth, a Nacogdoches County sheriff's deputy.

The procedure began Tuesday morning. Angie was in surgery from about 7:30 to 10:30. While she was still on the operating table her kidney was taken to Kenneth for transplant an hour later. He was in surgery until about one in the afternoon.

Today Angie is walking around, but Kenneth is a bit more groggy, said a relative. "It's working really well. We saw good results right away," said Stephen King.

The couple will remain in Houston for at least several weeks. Kenneth's immune system is fragile. The couple expresses gratitude for the support they've received from law enforcement agencies that conducted benefits to help pay for the expenses.

Angie said before the operation that she was more than happy to provide the needed organ.
