ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) – Halloween festivities are usually geared toward kids, so Angelina County Adult Probation officers kept tabs on the county's sex offenders throughout the evening.
This year, three teams of two probation officers made the rounds of about ten offenders per team. They made sure the offenders were doing what they're supposed to be doing. And that it didn't involve trick-or-treaters.
Lisa Page and Dustin Fore are one team of probation officers who spent their Halloween checking on sex offenders across the county.
"They know we're coming," said Dustin Fore, Supervisor for Specialized Caseworker Services.
The two drove from one sex offender's home to the next.
"At each residence, we make sure they don't have candy left out for trick-or-treaters," said Lisa Page, Supervision Officer for Sex Offenders.
They said they're doing they're part to make this community as safe as possible.
"If the courts are going to put these people on probation we are going to try to do everything we can to make the public as safe as we can make it," said Fore.
Basically, the probation officers looked for three main things: one, the sex offender is where they say are; two, the lights are off at their house, and three, there's no enticing decorations for kids.
Even if an offender checks out fine, they still get a warning that the team could stop by a second time before the night was over.
"So they know that we could be coming back by, that they're not in the clear because we've come by once," said Page.
If the sex offender can't be found, fore says to be prepared for the consequences.
"If we can't find them, we'll deal with it Monday. We'll do the appropriate sanction," said Fore.
