Authorities investigate Joaquin bank robbery

JOAQUIN, TX (KTRE) - JOAQUIN, Texas (Press release) - Shelby County Sheriff Newton Johnson reports that on November 3, 2010, at approximately 12:46 p.m.  the Shelby County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call from Texas State Bank in Joaquin that the bank had been robbed.

Sheriff Johnson and several deputies responded to the call, upon arrival investigators were able to determine by bank employees that 2 male subjects had entered the bank and demanded the money from the cash drawers.  One of the suspects displayed a pistol and left the bank within a matter of minutes with an undetermined amount of U.S. currency.

The robbery suspects also demanded the car keys from one of the bank clerks, and left the bank in the clerk's vehicle.  The vehicle was recovered a short time later in a wooded area approximately 6 blocks from the bank, where the robbery suspects apparently had another vehicle waiting on them.

The FBI and The Texas Rangers were immediately notified and are also working on this case.

The Sheriff's department has some leads that it is following up on and expects arrest to made in the near future.
