Lufkin Fireworks Show Canceled After Kilgore Fireworks Warehouse Explosion: 3 Believed Dead

Three people are missing after a warehouse filled with fireworks exploded in Kilgore Thursday afternoon.

The explosion happened around 5 pm at Lamb Entertainment near downtown Kilgore. The explosion leveled the building, destroying the company's offices and damaging nearby homes.

The mayor of Kilgore says the three people, two men and a woman were thought to be inside the building at the time of the explosion; they are still missing. Five other people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, such as cuts and scrapes.

A man who owns a convenience store about a half mile away says he heard 10 or 15 smaller explosions after the initial huge blase. Firefighters believe all of the explosives have been contained. At least 8 homes nearby were damaged as a result of the explosion, and Kilgore police evacuated an area spanning several blocks.

The company, Lamb Entertainment, was the same company that was going to do the Ellen Trout Zoo Fireworks Friday night. Due to the explosion, the fireworks display will be cancelled, but all other festivities throughout the day will go on as scheduled.
