LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Lufkin Police have arrested a man they say tried to set a fire at Winston Park.

According to the report, a security camera at the park, located at 1009 Clinton Drive, captured a man trying to set fires to different structures between 8:45 p.m. and 9:33 p.m. on Aug. 31. The video images showed him igniting a substance multiple times at different areas outside of the structure, causing damage to pipe insulation, paint and wooden objects.

The man apparently set fire to toilet paper stuffed against the insulation surrounding a water pipe, according to the report.

After posting a short video composed of the security camera-captured images online at www.LufkinCrimeStoppers.com, Lufkin Police received anonymous tips identifying the suspect as Alejandro Garcia, 18, of Lufkin.

Police and fire officials then obtained photos of Garcia and his bicycle and compared them to the images and concluded they matched.

Authorities met with Garcia and say he confessed to the incident. Police obtained a warrant for his arrest on Oct. 13, and arrested him Wednesday when they learned he was at the Angelina County Courthouse for an unrelated matter.

Garcia is charged with arson.
