LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - A Lufkin man was arrested Sunday night after police say he tried to steal an alcoholic beverage from a convenience store and used his large frame to try to get by a police officer.
According to the report, a police officer inside a Polk Oil Company store at 11 p.m., located at 620 North Raguet Street, witnessed Edwin Jabroskey Simpson, 22, hide a Tilt alcoholic beverage in his clothes and try to leave the store. The officer told Simpson to stop, but instead used his 6'3", 260-pound body and momentum to ram the officer into the store's entry doors, breaking the doors and causing minor injury to the officer, the report stated.
Simpson then fled from the store but was captured by officers in the middle of the street on North Raguet Street, according to the report.
Because Simpson is accused of causing injury in the act of a theft, he is charged with robbery in addition to evading arrest.
