Nacogdoches couple trying to get injured son to Houston

BEAUMONT, TX (News Release) - NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches couple is trying to raise funds to get their son to Houston for treatment after he was critically injured in a rafting accident in Costa Rica.

Chad Swenson, son of Nacogdoches businessman Doug Swenson, and step-son of Community Action Director Karen Swenson, suffered head trauma when a falling tree limb struck him directly above the forehead.

According to the Web site, Chad's Trust, Chad had to be carried out of the jungle by hand and duct-taped to an upside-down raft. He did not arrive at a trauma center until 15 hours after the accident.

Chad has been in a coma for two weeks and doctors have just completed a second brain surgery. His insurance will not cover air ambulance back to his hometown of Houston, which will cost between $30,000 to $40,000.

To donate to Chad's recovery trust, go to the Web site his family has set up for him.
