NACOGDOCHES (KTRE) – In our last weekly installment of Jack of the Week for the fall I ventured over to talk to one of the "bigs" upfront.  It all starts with the offensive line and to be a potent high powered offense you have be on the same page blocking for the quarterback. Senior Jesse Funk is one of two seniors on the offensive side of the ball on the entire team, the other being quarterback Jeremy Moses.

Funk plays center and relays to me in a KTRE exclusive interview that offensive lineman are the smartest guys on the field at all times.

"Of course we are the smartest guys on the field we are also the best looking but we don't like to brag about it.  We like to keep it amongst ourselves and just work hard and do our jobs. We have to pick up blitzes, we have to make checks at the line, we have to know every single defense and know how to block it in every single way that they can do it," Funk said.

Funk and the entire offensive line take a great deal of pride in making sure the quarterback is vertical and not horizontal.

"Our job is to keep the quarterback clean and steer traffic and stuff like that and as a center you have to make sure that all five guys up front know what they are doing and know where they are going, we have a saying up here it's called FIVE GUF.  Five guys up front and that's what we are all about."

Funk and his friends are hoping to keep Chief Caddo in Nacogdoches after beating Northwestern State last year 19-10.  Game is Saturday November 20th at Homer Bryce Stadium at 2pm.  Funk will graduate next month with his degree in Kinesiology and minor in mathematics.  Jesse Funk is your Jack of the Week.
