The Angelina College Roadrunners rallied twice from double-digit deficits

The Angelina College Roadrunners managed to battle back from a couple of deficits, including an 11-point shortage early in the second half, but they just couldn't seem to stop McLennan's Highlanders down the stretch.

After the 'Runners moved within a single digit at 48-47 with 8:19 to play, Highlander Andre Potts hit back-to-back three pointers – he finished 4-for-4 from behind the arc – to spark a 13-3 run allowing McLennan to take a 71-55 win Thursday night at Shands Gym in Lufkin.

Potts finished with 15 points to lead the Highlanders; Derico Dandridge and Taylor Smith joined him in double figures with 11 points each.

AC's Trent Brantley notched his second double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds; and Adrick McKinney added 11 points and eight boards for the Roadrunners.

The Roadrunners cut into an eight-point, first-half Highlander lead with a six-point surge from Brantley and a bucket by McKinney to leave AC trailing 24-23 with just over five minutes to play before the break. But the Highlanders put together a 13-3 run to close out the half and take a 37-26 lead into the locker room.

The same story presented itself in the second half: AC, trailing 46-35 with 14:43 to play, rallied for a 12-2 run behind buckets from McKinney and a three pointer from Ja'Darius Davis.

But Potts shot McLennan back into a bigger lead with three pointers on consecutive possessions, and the Highlanders closed out the game on an 8-2 run to send the Roadrunners to just their second loss of the season.

AC (5-2) opens conference play Tuesday night at home against Jacksonville College as part of a Roadrunner/Lady Roadrunner doubleheader. The Lady 'Runners tip off at 5:30 p.m., with the men following at 7:30 p.m.
