LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - A Lufkin man says two men he did not know attacked him and robbed him after using his cell phone. A police officer managed to track one of them down and arrest him after a short chase.

According to the Lufkin Police report, an officer was responding to a disturbance call when he drove by Lofton Street, at the intersection of Kurth Drive, and noticed two black men beating up a white man, at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday.

The officer turned his car around and the two men began running away. The officer managed to stop one of them, Jakerriyus Cervonte Harris, 17, on Mize Street.

The victim, an 18-year-old, told police the two men asked him if they could use his phone. At some point, he realized they were trying to steal his phone, so he began to run away from them. The two men caught up to him and began beating him up and took his wallet, cell phone and rosary beads, which are used to pray in the Catholic church.

Police recovered the wallet from Harris, the report stated, but were unable to recover the phone or beads.

Harris was booked into the Angelina County Jail early Monday on a charge of robbery.
