LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - An Angelina County jury has sentenced a New Waverly man to five years in prison for shooting and injuring a Hudson man.

Timothy Malone, 34, shot and killed Terry William Adams, 47, of Hudson and injured Joel Thomas Gresham, 41, of Hudson. Malone claimed shooting both in self-defense.

Friday night, the same jury convicted Malone for shooting Gresham. They could not agree on a verdict for a murder charge in connection to Adams' death.

The jury also ordered Malone to pay a $5,000 fine. He gets credit for the time he has served in the Angelina County Jail since May and will be eligible for parole after he has served two and a half years.

Malone pleaded not guilty to killing Adams and shooting Gresham in the leg at a May graduation party gone wrong.

Malone was being tried for one count of murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

This case was the first murder case for Hudson Police, since the force was created about 10 years ago.
