LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - A man taking an early morning walk Tuesday caught a suspected burglar in the act and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.
According to the report, Lufkin Police received a call at 5:30 a.m. of a possible burglary in progress on the 1200 block of Jane Street. When an officer arrived he saw the caller was holding the suspect, Zachary Ryan Oliver, 18, of Lufkin, at gunpoint.
The caller told police he was walking down the street when he saw Oliver pull up to a house and up the carport before going back into his car and driving to the next house. That's when the caller stopped him and held him at gunpoint.
The report states police found a radiator and gas cans, which a homeowner on the block said belonged to him. Oliver apparently broke into a storage building on the property and stole those items, according to the report.
The caller, who asked not to be identified, said he walks with a gun every day.
"I just saw him coming from that second house and I stopped him with the gun and said, 'That's enough buddy,'" the caller said in a phone interview Tuesday.
"The 911 woman was asking me questions about what kind of gun I had and then she asked, 'Is he black or white?'" he said. "I said, right now, he's staring down the barrel of a gun. Of course he's white! I mean, if you were at the end of a gun with a crazy man like me on the other side, wouldn't you be scared?"
Police also found Oliver to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Oliver is charged with burglary of a building and possession of drug paraphernalia.
