NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man following a month-long investigation into a girl's allegation that he touched her inappropriately.

Sheriff Thomas Kerss said the investigation showed Martin Cordero Garcia, 31, of Nacogdoches was an acquaintance of the 12-year-old girl's parents. On Oct. 18, he came to their house in an intoxicated state and touched her inappropriately, Kerss said.

Kerss said the girl reported the incident to her parents, who then went to authorities.

The sheriff's office obtained a warrant for Garcia's arrest and arrested him without incident on Tuesday.

Kerss said while Garcia touched her over her outer clothing, it was important she report the incident.

"Statistics show that had it not been reported, cases like these continue and could have gotten worse," he said.

When the girl told her parents about the incident, another girl in the home, a 13-year-old, came forward and said he had also touched her inappropriately about a month earlier.

"It's important for parents to talk to their children about not being embarrassed or ashamed to report these facts and to make sure they do it in a timely manner," he said.

Garcia is charged with indecency with a child.
