Mom spends Thanksgiving in the hospital and says there's no place she'd rather be

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - This Thanksgiving holiday is taking on new meaning for new mom Sahara Lee Harllee.

She's spending the holiday in the hospital at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, but she's not complaining because there's no place she would rather be.  That's because she's with her new baby boy, Caleb, who's just a day old and not quite ready for the traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Born on Thanksgiving eve, Caleb James Harllee is just what his mother had been wanting.  "He was my turkey in the oven and he's arrived," she said lovingly as she watched the little tyke stretch.

The 7 lbs. 8 oz. bundle of joy was supposed to arrive a week ago.  Caleb apparently had other plans.  "That's just his way of saying 'Hi mom and happy Thanksgiving.' And do things his way. He's special. He's unique."

Harllee said Baby Caleb will be the last addition to her family.  "We have two girls, so, I wanted my boy.  I got my wish."

When KTRE's cameras visited, Harllee was waiting for her husband and mother to arrive.  She took advantage of the time to steal a few quiet moments bonding with her newborn.

"He likes to clamp his hand around my finger which makes it, oh, so sweet and tender, and I look at him and see a part of me, something that I contributed, I brought into this world."

Registered Nurse Marcia Kelley said Caleb is one of two Thanksgiving babies born this year.  She said, the little ones and their mothers make working the holiday a special experience.  "Our moms tell us they get their best present, you know this is their best present."

Harllee can't agree more.  "I'm thankful that I had a healthy baby boy and that I can share the day with him and you guys."
