NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) – They serve hundreds of kids, who struggle in school, and have fallen through the cracks.

The Solid Foundation Association is a non-profit educational program, offering after-school mentoring and tutoring resources to students throughout Nacogdoches county.

Saturday, organizers hosted the first annual pineywoods holiday book festival, with local and regional author readings, book signings, music, and raffle prizes.

They hope this fundraiser and others will help boost lower donations.

"The program is free to the community and we actually pick the kids up, take them there and take them home and it's all free of charge so the funding is critical in order for us to handle the expenditures of the cost of this project," said Director of the Solid Foundation Association, John Cannings.

The Solid Foundation Association relies mostly on United Way funding to serve their community.

If you'd like to donate, you can mail a check or stop by the foundation located at 2220 East Main Street in Nacogdoches.
