Houston County Community Raises Support For Copeland Family

It's been nearly two months since a Lovelady couple was brutally murdered in their family home, and while the memories of that night may never leave the children of Nathan and Annette Copeland, the community did their best to support the family Saturday.

Houston County law enforcement along with radio station KIVY put on a bar-be-que and auction for the family this evening on the square in Crockett. Hundreds turned out to show their support and give donations for a college fund for the Copeland's two children, 14 year-old Cody and 10-year-old Courtney, who survived the tragedy. Organizers say the community support has been overwhelming.

"The response has been tremendous everyone has called to see what they can do to help," said Toni Richey of KIVY radio.

Cody and Courtney have been staying with their grandparents since they lost their parents. Their grandmother, Luceile Copeland says the community's support has helped their family heal.

"Oh yes, it does make it easier having your family in the community and in your church there to support you but it's still hard," said Copeland.
