LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Sean McElhaney needs a dog to save his life. He is a Type 1 diabetic where his pancreas does not produce insulin.
He's found a diabetic alert dog named Emma, but she's $6,000 and his insurance won't cover it.
The canine is trained to sense when his blood sugar is off-kilter and alert him because his body doesn't always let him know when he's off.
"It'll make me feel a lot better because my mom, it's a lot of stress for her because she has to go everywhere with me," said McElhaney.
If you're interested in helping out McElhaney you can email his mother at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There's also an account set up at Angelina Savings Bank in Lufkin in Sean McElhaney's name.
