Trinity man dies in 2-vehicle wreck

TRINITY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

TRINITY COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - A Trinity man died Thursday night after getting hit by another vehicle on State Highway 19.

According to the Department of Public Safety report, Gregory Wayne Grider, 42, was driving on S.H. 19 at 11:01 p.m. when he was hit by a 2002 Ford truck, driven by Frank Edward McFarland, of Trinity. McFarland was driving north, about .2 miles north of State Highway 94. The report does not state which way Grider was traveling.

Grider was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:25 p.m. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Grider's passenger, Melissa Ann Grider, 44, was treated and released from a Trinity hospital.

DPS spokesman Greg Sanches said investigators are still trying to determine who was at fault. He said it appears Grider was pulling out of Mill Pond Road, a side road to S.H. 19. Instead of using the stop sign, he attempted to cut across a small area of grass and dirt to cross the highway and pull into his residential driveway. McFarland was coming from the south and had to evade Grider, so he swerved to the left, though Sanches said correct procedure would have been for him to veer to the right.
